In total, these facilities treat more than two million gallons of water each day. High quality water is essential to the process of making solar panels. To successfully apply the coatings on the glass panels, enabling them convert sunlight to electricity, multiple cleaning steps are necessary. Kleinfelder assisted this manufacturer with its ultrapure water needs through the design and procurement of systems that support reverse osmosis (RO), electrodeionization (EDI), ultraviolet (UV), and multimedia filtration (MMF).
At the other end of the manufacturing process, wastewater produced by the process of making solar panels requires significant treatment and oversight. Kleinfelder provided the client with a system for removing heavy metals from the wastewater stream to meet the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) standards.
